Measuring performance

We use browsers to access information that is published on the Internet.

To CMS or not to CMS ?

The larger more complex websites are more often than not created with the help of software known as Content Management System (CMS). Such software offers websites owners the choice of templates (looks) of their website ahead of it being developed, whilst designers automate the creation of websites, thus speeding up the development cycle.

Ideally, designing and maintaining a modern website should remain the job of professionals. However, this domain has not managed to escape the modern DIY concepts.

Inevitably, this is achieved by means of permanently overloading a website, fact that otherwise would not have been strictly necessary. If building an apartments block requires the erection of scaffolding, imagine that in order to facilitate the block’s ongoing maintenance, scaffolding would never be removed. For the luxury of relative ease of managing its contents, a website that is produced using a CMS software has to forever be left with all of the “scaffolding” that was used at its construction phase.

Your website needs only the occasional text editing? No need to add or remove webpages, or to perform images modifications? A comprehensive CMS that is: WordPress, Drupal, MODx, Typo3, Joomla, or concrete5 could certainly do the job. These however, are definitely not the most adequate tools for your website’s maintenance. Using a CMS to administer the contents of your website would be like using the largest available hammer to fix a little nail on the wall.
